Sometimes it takes the kind of adversity that Cherie is facing to show us the finest side of mankind. This horrible cancer and the toll it has taken on her health has brought a level of love and support that is truly heartwarming.
Hundreds of greeting cards, calls, flowers, social media get well wishes and a steady flow of visitors have brightened our days over these last several months. Our daughter has flown in five times already to be with her "Momma", neighbors, friends and family have supplied us with a variety of food items and flowers. Our neighbor Lois takes time to stay with Cherie allowing me to get away to the gym or run errands. Cherie's sister Joan made the long journey from North Carolina to be with her, and sister Shirley comes every Sunday evening to be with Cherie giving me the opportunity to play some soccer. Our son Arno and his wife Rebecca are frequent visitors, generally bringing some delicious food stuff with them. Cherie eats like a bird, but I've managed to put on a few pounds over the Winter.
I've tried to capture pictures of those that have come for visits to our home and the rare times we've ventured out to be with friends. I've not not been entirely successful.
Please take the time to listen to this short song entitled: "For you are my God". It's not the greatest rendition of the song, but it encapsulates our gratefulness to God for the strength he has given us and for the "marvelous comrades" he has surrounded us with.
