It was Cherie's wish that we forego the traditional funeral and memorial services but rather host a gathering of family and friends to share in the memory of her life.
My son Arno Martin and his wife Rebecca graciously offered their home and it's expansive outdoor patio to hold this gathering. Nothing ever quite works out the way you plan it. Two days before the date of the gathering a destructive storm moved through the area knocking out power. It was still out on the 20th and rain was forecast for the afternoon hours. The power company never came through for us but Mother Nature did. It cooled off a bit and the rains stayed away.
The number of people that came was overwhelming, some from great distances. They came to honor Cherie and meet and greet others that were also touched by her.
I am so grateful to all that came and shared their love for my wife of so many years.
Cherie, you were, and are, loved. We will miss you dearly.
We had planned to show this video on the big screen at our gathering but couldn't do so because of the power outage.
