We drove south from Bonn past Frankfurt and Darmstadt towards Baden Baden. The hotel we stayed is the Gasthof Engel, a quaint little place just south of the city of Baden Baden. We drove into Baden Baden for a look around but decided to have our evening meal in the Gasthof where we were staying. We weren't disappointed. The food was good, the beer was even better, and we were entertained by a choir group that was also eating in the main guestroom. We went to bed at a reasonable hour and got up fairly early for a great breakfast before continuing on our journey. We drove past Strassbourg into France and south along the Wine Road. This is a beautiful spot with lots of vinyards and rustic old villages. We ate lunch in one of those little places and then continued on, swinging back east eventually back into Germany. You actually need a car to make these kind of excursions, but if at all possible take a train or bus. Driving through some of the narrow roads in towns built for horse and buggy traffic can be an adventure.
